Seawinds Horse Archers Club

Archery from horseback was once the most formidable martial art on Earth.  Recently revived from antiquity by the Hungarian Master Kassai Lajos, it’s become one of the fastest growing equine sports.  In 2018 horsearchery reached Eastern Canada when Seawinds Horse Archers formed and successfully hosted our first competition!

About Seawinds

Our mission is to introduce people to the beauty, challenge and personal development found through archery and horseback archery.

Seawinds Horse Archers is based on the Bay of Fundy at Wild Mountain Farm near Baxter's Harbour, Nova Scotia. We train weekly, host camps and competitions, and teach clinics both at home and beyond.

Three Rivers

At Seawinds, we think of horseback archery as the meeting of three rivers: riding, horse training, and an archery practice capable of working from the back of a moving horse.

Each requires its own development before they can flow together.

For years, we explored dynamic archery largely because it was one of those rivers—a way of developing the rhythm, speed, precision and adaptability needed for horseback archery.

But over time we came to recognize something important:

this river doesn't have to flow all the way to the horse. It has a remarkable course of its own.

Dynamic archery is not our invention. Its roots reach deeply across cultures and history, and our own practice has been profoundly influenced by the work and teachings of Master Kassai Lajos.

What we have created is DAMAI — Dynamic Archery Martial Arts International: a modern developmental framework and martial arts system through which people can explore and develop dynamic archery, whether or not their journey ever leads to horseback archery.

You can simply begin with a bow.

Who We Are

Seawinds is led by Lance Bishop and Sarah Clarke, World Federation of Equestrian Archery International Instructors, competitive horseback archers and coaches bringing together archery, horsemanship and martial practice.

Whether your path leads toward horseback archery, deeper into dynamic archery, or ultimately both:

Come discover where your river leads.
